The eagerly-anticipated LG G5 phone will make its official debut this coming Feb. 21.

For those who may not know, Feb. 21 just happens to be a day ahead of the official start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will be taking place in Barcelona, Spain.

The confirmed announcement date for the LG G5 essentially means that the company will be using the event as a springboard to formally launch their latest offering, though it does also mean that they could be sharing the spotlight with their competitors.

Samsung's Galaxy S7 smartphone is also expected to make its debut at this year's MWC, and LG has reportedly decided that now is the time for them to go head on with one of the biggest names in the tech industry, GSM Arena reported.

Time will tell if LG's decision to go up directly against Samsung will end up working in their favor, or if it winds up as a potentially bad move for them.

LG is banking on the G5 being a success, and in pursuit of that, the company has decided to sign off on significant design changes for the upcoming phone.

The upcoming LG G5 smartphone is expected to be significantly taller, thinner, and even wider than its predecessors, according to Android Authority.

The phone's volume button will also be shifted to the site as opposed to its old position on the rear. The LG G5 will still have its power button set at its rear, and the phone itself is also expected to come equipped with a fingerprint scanner.

LG has also reportedly decided to feature an all-metal composition for their upcoming smartphone.

More news about the specs and features of the LG G5 should be made available soon, especially with its February debut date looming just beyond the horizon.
