Katy Perry's mom: Satan is attacking today's youth

Katy Perry's mother is back in the headlines over her parenting book about raising children under "demonic influences." Mary Hudson's "Joyful Parent = Happy Home" provides tips for parents to shower their children with unconditional love.

Hudson, who is married to evangelical pastor Maurice Hudson, describes a spiritual battle between parents and their stubborn children whose behaviors can sometimes even spell danger. She cites pop culture influences as part of Satan's attack on young people.

"Satan's visual attack on our youth is relentless," she writes.

Perry's mom also revealed that she went through depression after three having children -- Angela, Katy and David.

"I know how difficult it can be to watch your children do things 'their way' especially when it looks like it is totally the opposite of God's way," Hudson wrote in her book, which came out in stores in 2015. "You want to shout, 'Stop!' because you clearly see the danger ahead."

Perry has said in previous interviews that her parents have had issues with her job as a performer over some of her provocative songs and performances. Her relationship with her religious parents, however, remains loving.

Speaking with Australia's Nova Entertainment, Perry said that they have agreed to disagree when it comes to her job.

"We all come from different places," she said. "You can have your belief system, nobody is telling you to not believe your beliefs but you can also come from a space of love."

Perry's parents even appeared on "American Idol" in support of their daughter. Although they teased her for being "mouthy", Perry watched her parents from the stage with a big smile on her face. When Ryan Seacrest asked where the singer got her sassiness, Perry's father pointed to her mother and laughed.

Hudson was also with Perry when they met Pope Francis in person annual United to Cure conference at the Vatican.
