iPhone 6 release date, specs, rumors: Bigger 4.7-inch or 5.7-inch screen rumored to be in the works

The phablet market is strong so it wouldn't be surprising if the latest rumor about the iPhone 6 sporting a bigger screen turned out to be true.

After all, Apple users have been demanding it.  The most devoted Apple fans would of course never dream of switching to a more spacious and comfortable rival phablet like the popular Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but many would no doubt jump on the chance for something similar with all the Apple touches they love.

Well, breathe a sigh of relief you cramped up iPhone users because the latest news is that Apple is bumping the iPhone 6 up to 5.7-inches.

Earlier in the week, BGR was predicting a bigger 4.7-inch display but DisplaySearch is plumping for an even more ample 5.7-incher.

It projected on Monday that Apple will release either a 4.7-inch or 5.7-inch device in the second quarter of 2014.

As DisplaySearch rightly points out, rivals are upping their game and offering similarly high spec displays, only bigger.

The website has been looking at research based on Apple's Asia supply chain and their analyst David Hsieh draws this conclusion:

"Based on supply chain research, we believe Apple is planning to revamp nearly all of the displays in its products over the next year.

"This would indicate that Apple, once again, intends to count on display technology for new product innovation."

Later in the week, Cantor Fitzgerald's Brian White emerged from a meeting with tech supply vendor pretty convinced that the display will be around the 5-inch mark, BGR reports.

"Our meeting with a tech supply chain vendor highlighted a bigger iPhone is in the works, and our contact expects a launch in the 2Q:14/3Q:14 time frame," White wrote in a research note on Thursday morning.

After all the excitement over the release of the iPhone 5S, with its minor improvements, we can only imagine the hysteria that might erupt over that extra 1.7 inches of iPhone.
