With the PlayStation VR and the HTC Vive expected to make their long awaited debuts next year, people are now waiting on what Microsoft has planned in terms of when they will officially launch the HoloLens.
Unfortunately, Microsoft's own augmented reality headset may not end up on the same timeline as some of its competitors, and it may not be widely available for quite some time.
According to Crossmap, the expectation for now is that Microsoft's HoloLens will be launched some time in 2020, although that timeline is far from being official as well.
As for why the HoloLens is on a timeline that would be well behind that of its competitors, the answer may simply boil down to the headset simply not being ready.
Interestingly enough, there is a chance that some version of the HoloLens will indeed come out sometime soon, but it will in all likelihood simply be a developer version of the headset. Still, even if it is only being released to developers, there is likely to be a lot of hype surrounding the debut of the HoloLens, and that could take place as early as next year.
Despite the HoloLens not expected to be widely available anytime soon, that has not stopped Microsoft from gathering intel with regard to what people might want to see in the headset via the company's Share Your Idea website, WCCF Tech reported.
The results of Microsoft's intel gathering efforts have proved to be interesting, and according to those who gave their inputs, what they want is a different version of Cortana.
The idea, known as Cortana in Person, basically puts forth the suggestion of creating a full hologram of the virtual assistant that users will be able to interact with. Considering how popular the Cortana suggestion is, it may not be that big of a surprise if the virtual assistant makes her way to the HoloLens eventually.
