GoPro Hero 5 rumors: New camera expected to be released in 2016

GoPro Hero 4, the most recent iteration of the GoPro cameras GoPro

The year 2015 was probably not the best year for GoPro, but there's hope that next year can be better, especially with the GoPro Hero 5 reportedly on its way.

Originally, rumors had suggested that the GoPro Hero 5 would make its market debut sometime in October of 2015, but that was obviously not the case. GoPro reportedly had to delay the release of the new camera mainly due to some technical issues, but the hope is that those can be fixed relatively quickly.

If all goes according to plan, then the GoPro Hero 5 will likely be released in 2016, according to Blorge.

The question now is whether or not people should get the GoPro Hero 5 when it is released, and the answer to that probably depends on what the buyer is looking for.

As of now, rumors have hinted at what the new camera will be capable of.

If the rumors are to be believed, then one of the features of the GoPro Hero 5 will be its ability to shoot 8K videos.

8K videos would undoubtedly be able to deliver the clean and crisp footage that people are looking for, but the issue is that there may not be all that many computers capable of actually playing it. As ValueWalk pointed out, only computers with high-end processors will be capable of playing 8K videos, and that could limit the market reach of the GoPro Hero 5 significantly.

Another potential downside of shooting 8K videos is that it could eat into the camera's battery life very quickly, necessitating users to be more judicious when it comes to how often they use it over the course of a trip.

The GoPro Hero 5 will also reportedly feature enhanced waterproof capabilities, enabling it to capture images and videos even when submerged down to a depth of around 190 feet.

Unfortunately, there's not much else known about the GoPro Hero 5 currently, but more concrete details should be available along with the arrival of the new year.
