'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' release news: What will be different in the current generation adaptation?

 Square Enix

Alhough it may not be released for a while, the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" has still managed to become one of the most highly sought after titles, and yet, it's worth wondering if fans may even recognize the new game when it is eventually released.

While the remake is expected to feature the same cast of characters and mostly the same storyline, Square Enix has still hinted that there will be significant changes and it's time to find out what those may be.

In a trailer released back in December, Square Enix gave fans their best look yet, and right off the bat, they get a look at what seems to be a new combat system.

Instead of the turn-based style that was featured in the original, fans got to see a more action-oriented system. Unlike in the original, where players could fight with just a few button presses, it looks like they will now be tasked with having to move around more as they attempt to launch attacks and also defend.

The combat system also seems to feature at least some kind of combo mechanic that would not be out of place in any action game.

Aside from the seemingly revamped combat system, the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" also looks like it will feature more detailed designs, even for some of the non-playable characters (NPCs).

In the trailer, fans were able to see AVALANCHE members Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie as fully realized characters. The original "Final Fantasy 7" game features more than a few of these NPCs that are essential to the storyline, so it's worth seeing if they too will be given more attention in the remake.

Fans can also look forward to more changes being introduced inside the remake, at least according to producer Yoshinori Kitase.

In a post written by Kitase, he indicated that the developers are intent on providing an experience "that feels familiar yet new." He also said that more surprises could still be revealed in the future.

With any luck, fans will find out more about some of the surprises featured in the "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" sooner rather than later, and that all of them will add up to a better game than the original.
