'Elder Scrolls 6' launch: Questions surround the new game's release date

The wait for the successor of 'The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim' continues. Bethesda Softworks

With "Fallout 4" proving to be both a critical and commercial success, fans are now turning their attention on the arrival of "The Elder Scrolls 6," but it's hard to tell when that might actually be.

Rumors have been all over the place when it comes to associating a release date to the rumored game, with some suggesting that it would come out this year, and others projecting a 2017 launch date.

The only thing certain is that no one outside of Bethesda knows about the true status of "The Elder Scrolls 6," but it does look like an imminent release date is not in the cards.

In a recent interview with Wired, "Elder Scrolls 5" and "Fallout 4" director Todd Howard talked about his current mindset in the wake of the latter's massive release. Howard admitted that he needs a break now that "Fallout 4" has been officially released, although he does admit that the timing of the interview has something to do with that response.

Howard also mentioned that he and his team have several ideas they want to explore and that those too may soon find their way into big games, although he did not say when those might become a reality. Still, Howard talking about needing a break could all but rule out the possibility that "The Elder Scrolls 6" could be launched next year, unless work on the project had already started long before.

Rumors are also split on what the possible setting of the next "Elder Scrolls" game will be. Earlier in the year, locations such as Argonia and the home of the Redguards were mentioned as possibilities, although those rumors are now being labeled as false, according to N4BB.

The belief now is that "Elder Scrolls 6" could simply take place in Skyrim yet again, or perhaps explore an entirely new location.
