The beginning of 2016 has, thus far, been uneventful for "Destiny" players, but that may soon change with the introduction of a new in-game event known as "The Dawning."

Rumors that a new in-game event known as "The Dawning" really began to pick up steam over the weekend after a recent email that Bungie sent out to some players.

The email contains a short message from Bungie as well as a new item known as the Rising Light Emblem, but it's the details included in the message that are raising the eyebrows of most players.

The message itself is simply titled "Days of the Dawning," and on its own, the phrase seems unimportant, but as Eurogamer pointed out, it may have ties to earlier rumors surrounding the game.

As the website mentions, there were also some items spotted inside "Destiny's" database back in December that were also labeled in part with the phrase "The Dawning." It's still unclear if a connection actually exists between the items spotted in "Destiny's" database and the new message, but the phrase "The Dawning" would seemingly hint that there is some kind of bond.

As for what "The Dawning" will actually be about, some fans suggest that this upcoming "Destiny" event will have something to do with Mercury.

Players are pointing to the depiction of the Rising Light Emblem as evidence that the next in-game event will be taking place on Mercury.

For now, Mercury's primary role inside the game is to act as the setting for the Trials of Osiris, according to GameSpot.

If the rumors turn out to be true, then players can look forward to new items and perhaps even additional quests that will prominently involve Mercury.

Bungie has yet to reveal more details about the next "Destiny" event, although more details about it are expected to arrive soon.
