The new season of NBC's police procedural drama "Chicago P.D." is expected to air two months from now, and it looks like a new face will bring more dynamics and excitement to the show in the upcoming episodes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Li Jun Li has been cast to play a new character named Julie Tay in "Chicago P.D." Season 4. Li signed in for a three-episode guest spot, with the possibility that she will be upgraded to a series regular.

Li's character will reportedly be partnered with Burgess, played by Marina Squerciati. It may be recalled that Burgess' longtime partner, Roman (played by Brian Geraghty), exited the show last season. Burgess' original partner, Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) was meanwhile promoted to the Intelligence unit.

Li is actually a returnee to "Chicago P.D." after she appeared in the show as a different character named Anna Tse in one of the episodes last year.

The actress also previously played a major recurring role in ABC's thriller "Quantico" where she played an FBI agent, making her no longer a stranger to law enforcement roles. She also earlier appeared in "The Following," "Minority Report," "Damages" and "Billy and Billie."

Li will also no longer have trouble building chemistry with her fellow "Chicago P.D." cast members since she already appeared with Sophia Bush, Jesse Lee Soffer and Patrick John Flueger in NBC's 2013 drama pilot "Hatfields and McCoys."

The addition of Li's character may no longer be a surprise for avid fans, who know that there are a lot of vacancies in the show's main police department.

Even "Chicago P.D." executive producer Matt Olmstead earlier told Entertainment Weekly that new characters may be introduced in the show in Season 4, which is scheduled to hit TV screens on Sept. 21.

"We are setting in motion new blood coming in the beginning of next season," Olmstead said, as quoted in the Spoilers section of EW.com.
