'Batgirl' cast rumors: Lindsay Lohan wants to be DCEU's Barbara Gordon

Yet another actress has set her sights on Joss Whedon's "Batgirl," and this time, it is the former child star, Lindsay Lohan.

On Saturday, the 31-year-old voiced her interest in appearing in the latest comic book remake on Twitter and tagged Whedon, while she was at it. "RT if I should star in the new BATGIRL movie and everyone tell @joss," she wrote.

As of this writing, the tweet has already been retweeted nearly 4,000 times and liked more than 5,000 times.

Lohan used to be very popular in her younger days. Appearing in notable films like "Parent Trap," "Freaky Friday," and "Mean Girls," one would easily say she was among the most recognizable child actors in the industry until her personal life and struggles largely sidelined her as an actress. When she does act, she mostly sticks to TV nowadays. As recalled, her last feature film was 2013's "The Canyon," so "Batgirl" would be a leap in her career.

Unfortunately, chances are slim she would become DC Extended Universe's Barbara Gordon mainly because Whedon, who will be writing and helming the film, is planning to cast a new face, and Lohan clearly is not.

"I'm creating this character," Whedon told Variety back in April. "I'm in a dialogue with her. We'll see who joins that later on... I think this is somewhere you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her... I'm not against movie stars. They're great, but you need somebody who's going to be just right. And, in a situation like this, the name carries a lot of weight."

Then again, Lohan is not the only actress eyeing the role. Rising young actress Hailee Steinfeld said previously that she wants to be Batgirl as well.

This is not the first time Lohan has campaigned for a role on social media either. Last year, she also suggested she wants to be Ariel in the upcoming live-action adaptation of "The Little Mermaid" by posting a side-by-side picture of herself and the Disney character.

"Batgirl" is currently in development, but does not have a release date yet.
