Apple might just be releasing a 4 inch smartphone called iPhone 6c

With the amount of critical and financial success that Apple has been able to accumulate with the sales of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, it would make sense for the company to continue releasing larger screen iPhones while removing the smaller ones from the production equation altogether. However, according to the Chinese website UDN, the firm might not have pulled a smaller iPhone off the table completely.

While a very large portion of the company's focus will be on the upcoming iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, it appears that AU Optronics will be supplying 4 inch displays for the smaller screen smartphone, which is currently being referred to as iPhone 6c. Unfortunately, consumers who were waiting to get their hands on this device during 2015 will be bitterly disappointed, because the display components are expected to be supplied to Apple by Q1, 2016.

In short, thousands of individuals who covet a smaller, yet more capable iPhone have not had their dreams completely shattered, but they are going to have to wait till next year to see if Apple actually proceeds with the manufacturing of iPhone 6c. Initially, the tech giant was hesitant from releasing larger screen iPhones due to the fact that smaller one are easier to carry around and access. While phablet sized devices running different operating systems had seen a spike in sales, the official release of the iPhone 6 duo took Apple's overall market cap to an all-time high, prompting the firm to immediately begin working on its iPhone 6s duo.

As for the hardware specifications of iPhone 6c, it cannot be said for certain what the device will be incorporated with, assuming there is a device in the first place. However, when Apple unveiled its iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, the former was running the A7 SoC, compared to an A6 in the latter.

Under that assumption, it is possible that iPhone 6c will either feature Apple's A8 or A8X chipset, since the remaining models will be running A9. In any case, more information concerning the small form factor device will be found out after the unveiling of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
