The Android 4.4.3 update to Sprint models of the Nexus 5 turned into a bit of a non-starter in the end but the word around the web is that we can still expect a roll out of Google's next OS update very soon.
Tech Radar reports that Google has issued a firmware update for its Google Edu Device Set-Up app - an app designed to support schools in setting up Android tablets for students.
The update to Google Edu did not give any specific details but did make clear it will support the Android 4.4.3 upgrade.
The tech site is reading this as a pretty major hint that the next version of the Android KitKat mobile OS is on its way and can be expected "imminently".
The web was aflutter last week when Sprint announced the Android 4.4.3 to Nexus 5 devices but it later withdrew the update.
It seems the update is less about introducing major new features and more about fixing bugs. Android 4.4.2 KitKat users have complained of random reboots, WiFi automatic connectivity, and issues with Bluetooth connectivity so Android 4.4.3 should smooth them out and improve the performance.
There have been some reports that Android 4.4.3 will be coming soon to the Google Play Edition of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
That's after Bluetooth SIG certified an update for a Sony device called Togari, which is the codename for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
The software version number on the certificate was KTU72.S1.3013, with the KTU72 believed to be related specifically to the Android 4.4.3.
This is being taken as a good news as far as the update to other Google Play Edition devices is concerned - like the HTC One, HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S4, Moto G and LG G Pad 8.3.
