A new actor is set to join the cast of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and he's none other than Powers Boothe.

The name itself may not immediately register in the minds of fans, although Boothe has made appearances on shows such as "Nashville" and "Sin City," according to IGN.

Boothe can also be seen in "The Avengers," and now he will be reprising that role and providing a little more meat to the character.

This time around, Boothe will be featured more prominently as he takes on the role of Gideon Malick in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 3.

There's not a lot known as of yet about the mysterious Mr. Malick, although it appears the character will most likely either be a villain or someone who often toes that line on the show, according to Screen Rant.

Descriptions of Malick to this point paint him as a character with loyalties and motives that are not clearly defined, if at all, and also as someone who constantly exudes an aura of mystery and intimidation. Malick is expected to antagonize Grant Ward quite a bit on the show.

With so much mystery surrounding the character Boothe is set to portray, there have been rumors talking about just what Malick will be focused on in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Some have suggested that Malick may be related to Hydra or possibly to the Inhuman Lash, although it remains unclear up to this point.

That Malick could ultimately turn out to be a villain on the show would not be a surprise, considering how Boothe has been called on numerous times to portray such a character, thus making him a logical choice on this occasion as well.

Fans looking to find out more about Malick can tune into "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." which airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
