Sony Xperia Z6 release date: September launch likely

Sony is reportedly planning to release the Xperia Z6 at some point this year, but the eventual launch may be taking place later on in the calendar as opposed to anything immediate.

As of now, there's one solid piece of evidence that could lead folks to assume that the Xperia Z6 will be making its debut early on in 2016, and that's the fact that Sony has said that they will be holding a press conference at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC).

For those who may not know, this year's Mobile World Congress is scheduled to start in Barcelona, Spain on Feb. 22, so that could mean that more news about the Xperia Z6 may be made available by that time.

Still, some remain skeptical about the possibility that Sony is actually planning to launch the new smartphone at the Mobile World Congress.

Instead, the company may use the event to talk about their other devices such as the Xperia Z4 Tablet. Sony also figures to face some stiff competition at the event as Samsung may also be using the Mobile World Congress to formally launch their new flagship units.

According to PC Advisor UK, it's more likely that Sony will hold off on launching the Xperia Z6 at the Mobile World Congress, and instead, the company may release the device later on during the IFA event currently scheduled for September.

Sony, for their part, has remained silent regarding the matter, although there are rumblings that the company is now planning to release only one smartphone line per year.

If that is the case, then it would seemingly make more sense for them to wait until later in the year to make their big announcement.

Rumors also suggest that Sony has big plans for the Xperia Z6.

According to The BitBag, the new smartphone may feature a more curved design instead of its now familiar rectangular form.

The Xperia Z6 may also end up with a 5.2-inch screen, although it may not feature a 4K resolution.

More news about the Xperia Z6 should be made available in the future.
