Tullian Tchividjian's LIBERATE ministry folds after affair revelations

Tullian Tchividjian showed 'genuine confession and contrition,' according to Pastor Kevin Labby of Willow Creek Presbyterian Church in Florida. Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church

Tullian Tchividjian's Liberate Network has dissolved after fresh revelations about his conduct led to his being fired from his position at Willow Creek Presbyterian Church.

Five of the nine board members resigned after it was revealed Tchividjian, who resigned from the pastorate of Coral Ridge Church after he and his wife both admitted extra-marital affairs, had also engaged in a previously unconfessed relationship.

His LIBERATE ministry, whose mission is described as "to connect God's inexhaustible grace to an exhausted world through books, conferences, television, radio, social media, and a variety of other mediums", was relaunched last month, though he remained on sabbatical from its board.

A statement from the remaining board members said the organisation had decided to cancel its scheduled 2017 conference and dissolve the organisation. Those who have registered for the conference will receive full refunds.

The statement said: "We'd like to thank those that have stood alongside Liberate in championing the message of 'God's inexhaustible grace for an exhausted world.' However it is in the best interest of that very message – which is bigger than any network and any man – for Liberate to come to an end."

Tchividjian is the grandson of the evangelist Billy Graham. He joined Willow Creek in September 2015 not long after his departure from Coral Ridge, amid criticism that it was too soon for him to return to a high-profile ministry position.
