Transfer news, rumours: Arsenal going for Atletico Madrid defender, Man United scope Wesley Sneijder

Javi Manquillo

The Gunners have just signed Alexis Sanchez but they are already keen to make their next move with Atletico Madrid defender Javier Manquillo.

Arsenal are reportedly in advanced stages of talks to sign the deal on a season-long loan of the 20-year-old Spaniard, AS newspaper reports.

His natural home is right-back but he can also play the midfield and left-back positions well.

If Manquillo comes on board, he'll be joining recent signing Mathieu Debuchy.

Although the talks are focused on a loan at the moment, his place at the Emirates Stadium could be made permanent next summer, the Daily Mail reports.

But if the Gunners do get Manquillo, it puts a question mark over Carl Jenkinson, whose name has been connected to Newcastle United.

Talks around Manquillo follow Bacary Sagna's departure for Manchester City.

Fanatix reports that the Rojiblancos don't want to lose Manquillo, who is contracted until 2018, but could be forced into a sale if he demands it.

Over at Manchester United, the way is clear to take up Dutchman Wesley Sneijder after Galatasaray said they couldn't stop him leaving.

The possible transfer comes after the appointment of Louis van Gaal as Man U's new club manager.

Club president Unal Aysal was quoted as saying by The Sun: "Sneijder is a good player. We want to keep him at Galatasaray.

"If we receive an offer of 20million euros we do not have the luxury of saying no. That is stipulated in the contract.

"All I can say is that if any club pays us €20million and he wants to go then we can't force him to stay – it's written in his contract."
