'Today' host Savannah Guthrie says 'motherhood and faith go together'

"Today" host Savanna Guthrie recently spoke at a Catholic luncheon about her faith. She revealed that it's the foundation that helps her be a better mother to her two young kids.

Guthrie, who is mom to 3-year-old Vale and 1-year-old Charles, believes that having a strong faith is crucial to motherhood but at the same time, motherhood teaches women most things they need to know about faith.

"Motherhood and faith go together. I couldn't do one without the other," the host said. "Being a parent teaches us in the clearest terms how God, our Father in heaven, relates to us," she added.

Guthrie, who grew up in a Baptist household, said that she spends a lot of time praying on her knees for her kids' protection. She also inculcates faith in her children when she asks them to do simple tasks and daily chores, like saying thank you and making their bed.

"I believe it is my role to give them the building blocks and to expose them to faith," Guthrie shared. "Most crucially [and challengingly], that means I must try to model faith and show them what it looks like to love God and count on Him every day."

Guthrie shares the task of raising her kids in faith with husband Michael Feldman, who is Jewish. She admits there is a challenge because of their differences and the TV personality said her children can decide the type of relationship they would like to have with God when they are older.

The "Today" host, however, admitted she hopes her children will follow the same religious path as her because "God has been the most important one of my life."

Meanwhile, in a conversation with fellow "Today" host Hoda Kotb, Guthrie admitted she felt heartbroken before she had children. Guthrie thought she was never going to become a mom until she got pregnant in her 40s.

These days, however, the toddlers have overtaken her life with her husband. Guthrie said that she doesn't feel the chaos of raising two kids. Instead, she feels abundance and an overflowing life with her growing family.
