"The Last of Us 2" ranks up there as one of the most eagerly anticipated sequels in recent gaming history, and development on the new game may have already begun.

While the game's developers have yet to even officially announce the sequel, there are some pieces of evidence out there that would seem to hint at the possibility that the game may be further along than what fans might expect.

First off, fans can look at the contents of an interview between Sony Computer Entertainment President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida and Eurogamer for hints regarding the sequel.

During the interview, Yoshida admitted that there was still nothing official to share about the game, although he also revealed that potential ideas for a sequel have already been thrown around. It's been a few months since the interview, and it's likely that the preliminary conversations about ideas for the sequel have evolved into more structured talks about what the game will actually feature.

Another piece of evidence that may be hinting at "The Last of Us 2's" currently ongoing development is the emergence of a new trademark.

Back in December, Sony reportedly filed a trademark for "Days Gone." According to Gaming Bolt, the term "Days Gone" fits into the overall feel of the original "Last of Us" title, and it may even end up being part of the sequel's actual name when it is eventually released.

Lastly, it's also worth noting that "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," the game "Last of Us" developer Naughty Dog is currently working on, is due out on April 26, and according to Segment Next, there's a chance that it may already be completed.

With "Uncharted 4" out of the way, Naughty Dog may have already started to work on their next project, and that could very well be "The Last of Us 2."
