After news broke earlier this year that "The Incredibles 2" is now in the works, fans rejoiced that a long beloved animated film is getting its rightful successor.

Unfortunately, news about the highly anticipated sequel has been scarce since then, although the film's director, Brad Bird, did speak with Collider to reveal some details about what fans can expect from the upcoming movie.

Probably of most interest to fans of the first movie is just what the storyline of "The Incredibles 2" will be focusing on.

During the interview, Bird commented on how the film landscape has changed since the debut of the original "The Incredibles" movie and he has indicated that he does not want the movie to cover the same ground as the ones that have already been released.

Instead, Bird stresses that "The Incredibles 2" will yet again be focusing on the same things that made it such a hit the last time around, with those being its tendency to shed a spotlight more on the characters and their relationships within the film.

Bird also shared details about the progress of the script, saying that he was three quarters of the way through it and that a story arc for the film is already in place.

Unfortunately again for fans, the director was unable to provide a concrete release date for the film, but it's a fair bet that "The Incredibles 2" may be a bit further off than what people might hope for.

According to Cinema Blend, the Pixar calendar is basically booked all the way through November 2017, and it's highly unlikely that a film announced this year will be leapfrogging any of the ones already etched into that slate.

For now, fans will probably be best served to eye a 2018 release date for the film and perhaps something even later than that.
