'Super Smash Bros. 4': Which new characters could be coming?

 Nintendo

New characters are reportedly on their way to "Super Smash Bros. 4," although their identities for now are still unknown.

In order to figure out who will be coming to the fighting game as new downloadable content (DLC) characters, Nintendo has asked fans to vote on potential candidates. As of now, however, Nintendo has yet to announce the official results of the polling, leaving fans to speculate about which new characters they may be able to look forward to.

According to Venture Capital Post, a preliminary list of characters who supposedly topped the voting has leaked online. The list reportedly includes Inklings from "Splatoon;" Isaac from "Golden Sun;" and the trio of characters from "Donkey Kong Country" in Donkey, Dixie Kong, and King K. Rool.

Other well-known characters such as Snake from "Metal Gear Solid" and Wolf from "Star Fox" are also reportedly on the list of the top vote-getters, although this bit of information has also yet to be confirmed.

Other characters from third-party games are also supposedly in the running to end up as a DLC character for "Super Smash Bros.4."

Still, it's unlikely that all of these characters will end up in "Super Smash Bros. 4," as it is currently believed that Nintendo will only be introducing three new DLC combatants.

In related news, fans of the popular fighting game franchise may also be in for a treat this coming holiday season.

According to iDigital Times, there is a decent chance that this may be the year that Nintendo finally releases a Wii U bundle including a "Super Smash Bros." and it presumably would include the latest one.

Nintendo has already released Wii U bundles featuring many of their other well-known titles, yet the "Super Smash Bros." franchise has somehow missed out on that honor. Nintendo might finally use this year to rectify that glaring omission.
