'Splatoon' news: Piranha Pit map now available for the game

Nintendo is looking to end "Splatoon's" year on a high note with the recent release of the new Piranha Pit map downloadable content (DLC).

The Piranha Pit map looks particularly daunting with its array of conveyor belts and cramped quarters promising to deliver a chaotic experience for "Splatoon" players looking to take it on.

The new map should also allow for more thrilling encounters between players, making it an intriguing addition to "Splatoon."

Aside from being the last form of DLC released for "Splatoon" in 2015, the Piranha Pit map is also significant since it is likely among the final pieces of new content that will be made available for the game, GameSpot reported.

As sad as it may be for "Splatoon" players to hear, DLC plans for the game are only expected to last until January.

This means that new content in the form of new weapons, pieces of equipment, and maps will no longer be coming to the game in the latter 11 months of 2016.

Still, there's new content for players to look forward to in January 2016, and even though new DLC may no longer be provided, that does not mean that "Splatoon" will just be left alone.

In a Famitsu interview with "Splatoon's" producer Hisashi Nogami and co-directors Yusuke Amano and Tsubasa Sakaguchi that was also reported on by Nintendo Everything, the game's brain trust revealed that even though new content will not be coming to the game after January 2016, the team behind it will still be providing balance tweaks to the weapons as needed.

On top of that, "Splatoon" players can continue to look forward to Splatfests continuing even after the last bit of DLC for the game has been delivered.

The trio also revealed that part of the reason for why they would be halting the addition of new content to "Splatoon" was because it could become too difficult for players to memorize which weapons work best with which stages.

More news about the new content coming to "Splatoon" should be available next month.
