Sony Xperia Compact vs LG G2 Mini vs Nexus 5 Review, Release Date, Specs: Google needs to fix Nexus 5 battery problem

The trend these days is increasingly towards the larger devices but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot to be excited about when it comes to the mini ranges as we are seeing with the Sony Xperia Compact and the LG G2 Mini.

That's because a larger size isn't for everyone, particularly people who don't feel the need to live out their whole lives on their smartphones, who aren't bothered about a smaller screen size, or who just want something that fits neatly in their pockets.

For those who care about graphics the Z1 Compact is a great choice, coming with a 4.3-inch, 720p display and an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit inside the Snapdragon 800 processor, 2.2GHz quad-core CPU. The battery is 2,300mAh and it comes with 2GB of RAM.

The LG G2 Mini has the same size display but it's altogether less powerful and impressive, coming only with a qHD (960 x 540) resolution display, a much lighter 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 chipset, and 1GB of RAM.

The battery is a little bigger at 2,440mAh and it runs on Android 4.4 Kit Kat, but it's greatest strength is really its price, being much cheaper than the Xperia Z1 Compact.

And despite being nearly 1mm thicker than the original G2, it is a light 121g.

The Nexus 5 comes with a 2.3 GHz quad core krait 400 processor and Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset, and 16 GB and 32 GB internal memory options but no Micro SD slot.

The 1080x1920 pixel display is bigger, at 4.95 inches, and given that the whole device is just under five inches, it's also pretty light at 130g.

The Nexus 5 comes with an 8 MP primary camera with autofocus, optical image stabilisation and LED flash. The secondary camera is 1.3 MP.

However, Google needs to fix the battery life problem users have been reporting.  GottaBeMobile reports that the problem is caused when apps access the camera and a process fails to quit, the result being that the device heats up and devours the battery.  Google is reportedly working on a solution.
