Scottish police call on help of priest to get rid of 'poltergeist' causing trouble inside a house

When we get in trouble, we usually call the police to ensure our safety. In Scotland, however, police officers themselves have decided to tap an unlikely ally — a Roman Catholic Church priest — to address the complaint of a family who reported bizarre occurrences inside their house.

In the Scottish town of Rutherglen, police officers reported that a mother and her teenage son have become "extremely distressed," to the point that they have experienced "violent and unexplained circumstances."

When the police went to the house in South Lanarkshire, they expected the mother and child to have a mental health problem, but their expectations were wrong. What they saw were hair-raising events that were quite difficult to explain.

"They witnessed the lights going off, clothes flying across the room and the dog (the family's pet Chihuahua) sitting on top of a hedge," a police source said, as quoted by The Telegraph.

"The officers called their superiors, who also attended, thinking the cops were perhaps being a bit silly. But it's being taken very seriously," the source added.

The unnamed police officer also said this was the first time the department saw something like this happen, which he said is likely caused by a "poltergeist."

"Officers with more than 20 years' service are saying they've never seen anything like this. It really is something that down-to-earth police officers are having trouble getting their heads round," the source said.

"How do you handle what, despite us not liking to use the word, has been described as a poltergeist?" he added.

Realising that they were facing more than just a peace and order problem, the local police decided to contact a priest. The priest blessed the house believed to be haunted by the poltergeist. The police also told the mother and her son to leave the house and just stay with a relative.

"Is it some form of hoax, or is it real or not real? These are the questions being asked by officers but without coming to any conclusion," the police source said.
