Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini release rumors: Snapdragon 808 running inside?

It appears the Samsung's and Qualcomm's chipset partnership has not completely dissolved because the South Korean phone giant is being rumored to be working on a lesser performing variant of its decorated Galaxy S6 handset, a Galaxy S6 mini.

According to Phone Arena, a Twitter user by the name of @tjb007 leaked important information concerning the hardware specifications of the rumored smartphone. The handset's specifications were spotted on GFXbench, which reports that the device features the model name SM-G9198 and is running a Snapdragon 808 SoC.

Samsung earlier on refrained from incorporating Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 due to its overheating properties. While critics believed that Samsung wanted to lower its dependency on Qualcomm by incorporating its own Exynos SoC, the tech giant turned out to be right all around. Snapdragon 810 overheats in smartphones such as HTC One M9, and LG G Flex 2, which prompts the processor to clock down (special term used is thermal throttling) in order to prevent irreparable damage to the remainder of the components.

Snapdragon 808 features a six-core processor, with two cores belonging to Cortex-A57, and the remaining four belonging to Cortex-A53. The screen size of the handset measures in at 4.6 inches, with a resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels. The smartphone is running Android Lollipop 5.1.1, and is running an Adreno 418 GPU, coupled with 2 GB of RAM. 16 GB of on-board storage is present, out of which 11 GB will be available to the user.

Surprisingly, there is a 16 MP rear camera sensor present at the back of the handset, and is complemented by a 5 MP front camera. Samsung has currently not stated if it is working on Galaxy S6 mini, but the company does release lesser performing variants of its flagship smartphones after it has released its primary set of devices.
