Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini release date, specs, rumors: Specs similar to S4 Mini; Possible release June 2014

The big buzz has been around the Samsung Galaxy S5, pictured

The big headline grabber this week is the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S5 but just because it's not big, doesn't mean we can't get excited.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is admittedly something of a mystery as the South Korean company has remained tight-lipped on much of the detail so far.

But like that ever stopped anyone from taking a good guess so here's a round-up of the latest rumors.

As the little brother to the Galaxy S5, it will for starts come in at a much lower price tag.

The Galaxy S5, out on Friday, is retailing in the UK at £579 and the US for $599.99 SIM free, and the S4 Mini retailed at £350 so we can expect the Galaxy S5 Mini to be around the same price SIM free.

June is being floated as the likely release date, which would fit with the Galaxy S4 Mini, which came out at the end of June.

It may be called Mini but the phone should still be pretty decent size-wise and possibly be even bigger than the S4 Mini.

SamMobile reported last week that the S5 Mini would come with a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution.  That's a better spec than the qHD resolution the Galaxy S4 Mini carries.

With Android 4.4 rolling out in March, we can expect that's what it'll run on.  It's also likely to be powered by a Snapdragon quad-core processor 400.

SamMobile reports an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front-facing camera, with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage.

Like the Galaxy S5, it is expected to be dustproof and water-resistant.

Not dazzling specs, but that's come to be expected with the Samsung Galaxy Mini line, which is intended for those who want to spend less than they would for the big smartphones while still getting a reliable, multi-functioning device.

That may mean it loses market share to the Xperia Z1 Compact, which has created a smaller device that does not scrimp on specs.
