A new flip phone is reportedly on its way to the marketplace.
According to a listing that has appeared on Chinese certification body TENAA, a new phone from Samsung, the SM-W2016, has reportedly been certified by the agency. The SM-W2016 is also reportedly known as the Galaxy Golden 3, according to NDTV.
Apparently, it is not just TENAA that has granted the Galaxy Golden 3 certification.
According to GSM Arena, the new phone from Samsung has also received from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
News of new phones coming out is hardly out of the ordinary, but there is something decidedly different about the Galaxy Golden 3.
What makes this particular unit unique is the fact that although it will work as a smartphone, it has been constructed to be handled just like an old-school flip phone.
There's still not a lot of official details known about the Galaxy Golden 3 for now, although its rumored specs have been leaked online.
Samsung's newest offering will reportedly feature an octa-core processor that will then be paired up with 3 GB of RAM. On top of that, the new flip phone is also expected to provide users with 64 GB of internal storage, although it appears this particular model will not be providing support for microSD cards.
There is some uncertainty regarding the exact screen size of the Galaxy Golden 3, with some suggesting it will have a 4.6-inch HD display and others reporting something slightly smaller at 3.9 inches.
According to Phone Arena, the new flip phone will also be equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera, while its secondary shooter will offer users five megapixels.
The new flip phone will also reportedly be running the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system (OS) when it is officially released.
As of now, there is no official release date for the Galaxy Golden 3. The wait for one doesn't figure to be that much longer, however, considering it has already cleared some significant certification hurdles.
