In order to bridge the performance gap created between NVIDIA's GTX Titan X and GTX 980, the leading manufacturer of desktop and laptop graphics processors is going to release its GeForce GTX 980 Ti in order to shorten that performance gap. Just like GTX 980 and GTX Titan X, GTX 980 Ti is going to be processed on the Maxwell architecture, allowing it to deliver impressive gaming performance and energy efficiency.

However, unlike GTX Titan X, it is expected that GTX 980 Ti is going to possess half the video memory of NVIDIA's current single flagship GPU solution, which ultimately means that it is going to come packing with 6 GB of GDDR5 video RAM. The additional video RAM will be advantageous for gamers who will be playing titles on resolutions going above the 1440p mark, but seeing as upcoming video games are sporting rich textures, that video frame buffer might be insufficient for future titles.

According to IGN, GTX 980 Ti is going to possess the same amount of CUDA Cores as GTX Titan X (3,072), with the primary difference separating the two graphics processors being the video memory. When NVIDIA had released its GTX 780 Ti, it featured a price tag of $699. While pricing details of the upcoming graphics chip have not been detailed, it is possible that NVIDIA might stamp the same price tag on to it. With GTX Titan X carrying a $999 price tag, along with GTX 980's $549, the company will be able to bridge both the elements of price and performance if it proceeds to incorporate the aforementioned price tag.

AMD's R9 300 series are going to be released during Q2, 2015, with the company's R9 390X going to head to head against GTX 980. It is also possible that NVIDIA wants to gain a commanding lead against its only rival in the desktop and laptop GPU market, and the release of GTX 980 Ti will be the ideal method to do that.
