'New Girl' season 7 spoilers: Winston's father debuts in Lamorne Morris-directed episode; Jess' ex returns

After taking the first step in re-establishing his relationship with his father in the "New Girl' season 6 finale, Winston (Lamorne Morris) is finally meeting his estranged dad next season.

Winston never really had an ideal relationship with his father, who left him at a young age. It was revealed that he was a cop just like Winston, which explained why his mom did not want him in the profession.

His fiancée, Aly (Nasim Pedrad) knew Winston wanted to find him, so she hunted down his contact information. After much hesitation, he eventually called and left a voicemail saying he was getting married and he wanted to meet him. It remains to be seen how his father would respond to the news, but recent spoilers reveal the two will come face to face one way or another.

Sources close to the show told TV Line recently that fans will be at long last introduced to his old man. Casting details are still under wraps, but the episode where his father would first appear will reportedly be helmed by Morris himself. This would mark his directorial debut.

In related news, Dermot Mulroney is reprising his role as Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) ex-boyfriend, Russell "The Fancyman" Shiller, for multiple episodes. There is no available information as to how he would factor in the show's narrative. However, the former couple is not expected to reconcile.

As teased previously, "New Girl" season 7 will pick up four years after the last season finale, and Jess would already be in a committed relationship with Nick (Jake Johnson). There are even claims that they will get married and expect their first child together in the finale.

Unfortunately, fans can only speculate for now. Fox has yet to give an official return date for "New Girl," but it is expected to arrive next spring, probably in late March or early April.
