Microsoft Lumia 940 specs rumors: Snapdragon 808 and 1.5 GB of RAM

More information concerning Microsoft's upcoming Lumia handset has been leaked courtesy of GFXbench. The device sports the model name RM-1106 and is expected to feature a screen size of 5.2 inches. However, there were some surprise changes added to the hardware details, which are far different compared to what previous rumors suggested.

Starting off, WinFuture reports that instead of resonating a 1440p resolution, the upcoming smartphone will be giving off a 1080p one. While there were no surprises that the device will be powered by a Snapdragon 808 SoC, the GPU however, was listed in the benchmarking report as Adreno 430, which is actually present in Snapdragon 810. Snapdragon 808 runs an Adreno 418 GPU, which raises several questions concerning the authenticity of this benchmarking report.

Another surprise was the fact that Microsoft Lumia RM-1106 features 1.5 GB, in contrast to 2-3 GB of RAM that is normally present on current generation flagship smartphones. Supplementing the RAM value was 32 GB of internal storage. The report also mentions that there is support for NFC connectivity, but Microsoft has made no mentions as for what purposes can the chip be used for. Lumia RM-1106 also features a 17 MP rear camera sensor, although earlier rumors stated that the mobile device features a camera sensor whose image capturing resolution was 20 MP.

The most confusing part of the benchmarking report had to lie in the odd combination of a Snapdragon 808 mobile chipset and an Adreno 430 GPU. It is possible that hardware specifications were manually configured for testing purposes, and that when a final revision has been prepared by Microsoft, a much better smartphone is presented to the market. However, the software giant has made no mention about this either.

After the release of Windows 10, more information concerning the upcoming smartphones will most likely be provided.
