Chinese PC maker Lenovo has decided to take the fight to Microsoft and its Surface 3 with the company's ThinkPad 10 tablet, which will be launched in August, and will feature a price tag of $549. ThinkPad 10 features a 10.1 inch screen size that renders a resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels. The tablet is much larger compared to Surface 3, making it a better substitute for a laptop compared to Microsoft's offering.

Lenovo ThinkPad 10 will be available to purchase in two chipset variants:

  • Intel Atom Z8500 (quad-core running at a clock speed of 1.44 GHz with a boost frequency mode that takes the clock speed up to 2.24 GHz)
  • Intel Atom Z8700 (quad-core running at a clock speed of 1.6 GHz with a boost frequency mode that takes the clock speed up to 2.6 GHz)

Both SoCs belong to Intel's 64 bit Cherry Trail family that have been manufactured using the company's 14 nm process. The smaller lithographic process will provide more processing power while consuming less energy. Additionally, ThinkPad 10 will also be able to purchase in the 2 and 4 GB RAM variants. Users can also decide if they want to purchase the 64 or 128 GB on-board storage models.

Other specifications include a pair of stereo speakers, a 5 MP rear camera sensor which is surprisingly incorporated with an LED flash, and a 1.3 MP front camera sensor. Furthermore, there is also an optional LTE modem present in the slate for those users who are moving around all the time, along with a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion flexibility. A 32 Wh battery (approximately 8,600 mAh) should suffice for providing battery life up to 10 hours.

Similar to Surface 3, Lenovo ThinkPad 10 will also be compatible with a wide array of accessories that consumers can purchase for improving their overall efficiency in an office environment, or at home.
