'Jessica Jones' Season 2 premiere spoilers: New characters, including villains, to be introduced

 Netflix

Netflix's superheroine series, "Jessica Jones," received mostly positive reviews when the entertainment company dropped all 13 episodes of its first season in November last year. This prompted Netflix executives to order a second season for the show.

Fans of the groundbreaking series are already very enthusiastic to know what direction the show will take in the upcoming second season. Luckily, "Jessica Jones" showrunner Melissa Rosenberg gave some hints about what will happen in the coming episodes, which she has already started writing.

According to a report from IGN.com, Rosenberg said "Jessica Jones" Season 2 will "continue to pull" from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos' iconic comic arc, Alias. It can be recalled the first season of the show mostly drew inspiration from the comic book.

While "Jessica Jones" Season 2 will most likely stick to its roots, its showrunner also hinted that new characters will be introduced in the upcoming episodes.

Rosenberg said the next season will spend more time exploring some of Jessica Jones' supporting characters, including "some new characters that are only interesting in how they relate to our existing characters."

"We can really get into some very interesting aspects of their characters and where they're from, where they're going, all these things. I'm super excited about that," Rosenberg said, as quoted by IGN.com.

The Netflix superheroine also looks like she's going to face new threats in the show's second season, but from a mould different from the first season's Kilgrave.

"David Tennant's [Kilgrave], we'll never create that again. That is one of the great iconic characters played by a profoundly talented actor. The objective is not to match that, not to try to do that again," Rosenberg said.

In crafting the episodes for "Jessica Jones" Season 2, Rosenberg faces another challenge: making sure that the second season will flow naturally with Netflix's new show, "The Defenders," which will also include the superheroine but will air before the second season of her show.
