Jeremy Lin remains in running for NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award

Jeremy Lin has had a solid 2015–16 season thus far, and his strong play could help him nab the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award.

According to Sportsrageous, Lin's ability to thrive in his bench role has helped him stand out as one of the NBA's best subs.

Currently, Lin is averaging 12.3 points, 3.2 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game in the contests he has participated in this season, and those numbers become even more impressive once his minutes are factored into the equation.

Lin is currently averaging 27.3 minutes per game, based on his player profile on ESPN. This means the production he has put up this season has been done in limited bursts.

There's also reason to believe that the Charlotte Hornets guard could still end up posting more impressive numbers deeper into the season as he is currently shooting just 42 percent from the field. For his career, Lin has shot just a bit over 43 percent from the field, so a little return to form in that regard could bump his scoring average even further up.

Lin has also managed to put up his solid numbers for a team that is currently in the midst of a playoff push.

As of now, the Hornets are currently sitting in ninth place in the Eastern Conference. That puts them just a spot out of the playoffs in the conference with still a lot of games left to go.

While the Hornets making the playoffs is not guaranteed to help Lin claim the Sixth Man of the Year award, it could still be a factor that some voters take a look at.

At this point, Sixth Man of the Year award or not, Lin has still put together a solid season, and it's possible that his best has yet to come, especially with the guard expected to be an essential part of the Charlotte Hornets as the team fights for a playoff spot.
