A new release from Apple is routinely greeted with loud cheers from their adoring fans, although it's always worth taking a closer look at just how much the company has done to make improvements, and that is an exercise worth undertaking for the iPad Mini 4.

The iPad Mini 3 was released just last October, so with the iPad Mini 4 being launched just this past September, people are understandably wondering whether or not it's worth upgrading from last year's model to this newly launched version.

In order to see if it is worth doing, people need to look at the specs and features of the respective devices.

Starting with the processors of the respective devices, the iPad Mini 3 features Apple's A7 chip together with the dual-core cyclone CPU, according to GSM Arena. The iPad Mini 4, on the other hand, has been enhanced to the A8 chip, which has been paired with the dual-core typhoon CPU.

Moving on the storage capacities of the respective devices, the iPad Mini 3 presents options of 16 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB models, and the same is also true with the iPad Mini 4. Where it differs is in the RAM capacities of the two devices. The iPad Mini 3 provides 1 GB of RAM, while the newer model gives users double that at 2 GB.

Changes have also been made when it comes to the cameras of the two devices. The iPad Mini 3 offers people five megapixels with its primary camera and 1.2 megapixels with its secondary shooter. The iPad Mini 4 outdoes that by offering eight megapixels with its primary camera, although its secondary shooter has the same megapixel capabilities, according to Apple.

What's clear is that there are significant enough changes that have been applied to the iPad Mini 4. Whether or not that ultimately warrants upgrading to the new model is now the decision that people will have to weigh.
