Huawei's recently announced tablet was showcased during MWC 2015, and was named MediaPad X2. The slate was running the company's Kirin 930 SoC and for the longest time, it was expected that Ascend P8, which is slated for an April 15, 2015 announcement is also going to be powered by the same chipset. However, according to PhoneArena, it is expected that the upcoming smartphone will be running a much more powerful variant of Kirin 930, which is going to be named Kirin 935.

Huawei had earlier debriefed the smartphone populace that MediaPad X2 was not carrying ARM's Cortex-A57 due to its high power consumption and instead, featured the following octa-core configuration:

  • Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53
  • Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53e (enhanced cores)

Cortex-A57 consumes approximately 256 percent more power compared to Cortex-A53, and while it also delivers 56 more performance compared to the latter, the high power consumption is still an unsuitable feature for modern day smartphones and tablets, which is the most accurate reason why Huawei did not feel compelled in placing the high performing CPU in its flagship tablet.

While the following has not been confirmed, it is expected that the company's Ascend P8 could be packing eight Cortex-A53e cores, which possess performance and energy efficient features belonging to ARM's Cortex-A57 and Cortex-A53 CPUs respectively. The rear camera sensor of Ascend P8 will possess a maximum camera resolution of 13 megapixels and will be belonging to Sony's IMX278 lineup.

Additionally, the smartphone is also expected to carry a larger battery pack and will possess features that will allow users to alter the power consumption of the handset, particularly when the overall battery life of the product is at its end. On April 15, 2015 Huawei will also be showcasing a smaller version of the company's Ascend P8 and will be named Ascend P8 Lite.

Both handsets are expected to be available for purchase after April 22, 2015.
