'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' release date, cast rumors: Mark Hamill's appearance happening? Actor weighs in

Last week, Mark Hamill and James Gunn sent the internet wild with their Twitter conversation about the former's potential appearance in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." Nothing concrete came out from their social media exchange, but the "Star Wars" actor has recently weighed the odds of it happening.

Recounting how it all came about, Hamill told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet for the 2018 Oscar Wilde Awards that the idea of appearing in Gunn's superhero franchise was "crazy."

"Isn't it crazy?" Hamill said. "I was just sitting there you know as I do, I used to do crosswords puzzles or the jumble and now I'll have Twitter on and some person said hey James why don't you put Mark Hamill in the next Guardians of the Galaxy and to my surprise James answered well he lives right around the corner, maybe we'll have coffee and we'll talk about it."

That was when Hamill joined the conversation. "So I answered," he continued. "I said I would be happy to do so not only as a good neighbor but as an unemployed actor." As previously reported, their conversation went further as they later talked about exchanging contact information via Direct Message (DM) and how the messaging function works.

Many fans have since expressed their excitement about the potential team-up. However, nothing is official yet. Even Hamill himself is not sure if anything will come of it, only saying "I'm just thinking it's so funny how these things happen."

Check out his interview below:

Should it come to fruition, Hamill would join other big-name actors who landed roles in the franchise including Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone. The two portrayed Ego the Living Planet and as Starhawk, respectively.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" has no exact release date yet, although it is rumored to enter into production early next year for a 2020 premiere.
