'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13 premiere date, spoilers: Relationships tested when season kicks off Sept. 22

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 is shaping up to be one upbeat season. ABC

The cast of "Grey's Anatomy" is already gearing up for the 13th season of the medical drama two months from now, and the upcoming episodes are shaping up to be a test of friendship for the show's characters.

As earlier reported by Variety, ABC network has revealed that "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 will premiere on Sept. 22, Thursday, before the new drama series entitled "Notorious."

Even with several weeks before the show goes back to the small screen, fans already have so much plot developments to look forward to in the 13th season. Actress Caterina Scorsone, for instance, hinted that her character Amelia will play a crucial role in the upcoming season.

It can be recalled that Amelia got married to Owen (played by Kevin McKidd) last season, yet she may keep herself busy building bridges between half-sisters Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) in Season 13.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scorsone further hinted that lead character Meredith may soon reveal that she hooked up with Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) in the upcoming episodes--something that is expected to not sit well with her half-sister.

"Right now, Amelia doesn't know about either of their situations with Riggs, so that will be something really fun to explore next year – how she's going to find out about Meredith and how she's going to find out about Maggie, and how they're going to deal with it," Scorsone told Entertainment Weekly.

"I don't know that they'll necessarily be at odds. Sisters before misters. It's possible that they'll both try and accommodate one another. I'm sure Amelia will do whatever she can do to ease anyone's pain in that family," she added.

In a related news, Design And Trend reported that the "Grey's Anatomy" cast recently got together for their first script reading session.

Series creator Shonda Rhimes herself posted a video on her official Twitter account showing cast members like James Pickens Jr. and Kelly McCreary reading the script for Season 13.
