Samsung is reportedly working on a new phone, but it may not be the high-powered handheld that people are looking for.

Instead, Samsung is believed to be working on a variant of the Galaxy J1.

According to multiple leaks, the new phone, expected to be known as the Galaxy J1 Mini, will be on the lower-end of the spec and feature spectrum, making it more suitable as a secondary phone or perhaps an option for those looking for more budget-friendly devices.

The specs and features of the Galaxy J1 Mini have appeared on three separate databases, with those being GFXBench, Spreadtrum, and Zauba, GSM Arena reported.

The new phone will reportedly be equipped with the Spreadtrum SC8830 chipset combined with a quad-core CPU.

For those who may be looking to get the Galaxy J1 Mini, they should know that the new phone does not offer much in terms of memory, at least if the leaks are to be believed. The Galaxy J1 Mini will reportedly only feature 1 GB of RAM together with an also less than ideal 8 GB of internal storage. It's unclear for now if the phone will be offering microSD support.

The Galaxy J1 Mini will also feature a five-megapixel rear camera coupled with one up front that provides 0.3 megapixels.

Interestingly enough, Android Headlines notes that the leak sources are split when it comes to what the actual display size of the Galaxy J1 Mini will be.

GFXBench notes that the device will sport the same 4.3-inch display as its original version, while Zauba indicates something different, suggesting that the new phone will live up to its Mini moniker and only provide a four-inch screen.

The Galaxy J1 Mini is also expected to run the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

A release date for the Galaxy J1 Mini remains currently unknown.
