'Fallout 4' tips: How to make battles easier inside the game

At the start of the Sole Survivor's journey inside "Fallout 4," battles can be really difficult to manage, and they don't get that much easier later into the game.

With that in mind, there are things players can do to help make dealing with the Commonwealth Wasteland's most notorious residents easier.

First off, players must know how to properly use VATS inside "Fallout 4." VATS, otherwise known as the Vault Assisted Targeting System, can be a lifesaver in numerous situations.

VATS will allow players to line up their shots and their strikes more accurately, and it also enables them to focus on single foes within a larger group, but they should remember that it has some limitations.

As NDTV notes, VATS only slows time down and does not actually stop it, meaning players can still receive damage even when it is activated. "Fallout 4" players will be better served to remember that so that they can construct a better plan of approach to battling hordes of enemies inside the game.

VATS is also useful in helping players weaken opponents who cannot be defeated right away. Since VATS provides players with limbs and other body parts they can target, they can use it to effectively weaken their opponents.

For example, players can target an opponent's leg to make movement more difficult for that foe, according to Videogamer. "Fallout 4" players can even target the arms, basically leaving the opponent incapable of inflicting any kind of significant damage.

"Fallout 4" is not just about dealing damage, as learning how to properly protect against it is also important.

Players should know what kind of foes they are up against and prepare accordingly.

For example, ghouls may not be as intimidating as super mutants and may not be using weapons like raiders, but take enough blows from them and the radiation damage can really pile up and players can find it's become very difficult to survive.

Wearing armor that effectively protects against the specific type of damage a particular group of opponents deals can be the secret to surviving inside "Fallout 4's" Commonwealth Wasteland.
