'Elder Scrolls 6' rumors: Is the highly anticipated game coming soon?

The wait for the successor of "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" continues. Bethesda Softworks

Bethesda Softworks' newest release, "Fallout 4," has been a massive hit thus far, but with the game now in the hands of players, fans are now turning their attention to what the company has lined up next.

More specifically, fans are hoping that Bethesda will finally start talking about "The Elder Scrolls 6."

In recent months, Bethesda's stance on "The Elder Scrolls 6" has mainly been to remain silent and simply shift the focus toward "Fallout 4," and that appears to be the plan for the immediate future as the company is still working on the downloadable content (DLC) they will be making available for the game.

Still, fans are hopeful that news regarding "The Elder Scrolls 6" is coming sooner rather than later.

One reason for fans to be optimistic that news is on the way is that, according to Crossmap, Bethesda has taken on the habit of releasing a new "Elder Scrolls" title once every four years.

Interestingly enough, if Bethesda was following that pattern, then that would have meant that "Elder Scrolls 6" should have been released this year. Instead, fans were given "The Elder Scrolls Online."

There is belief among fans that since "The Elder Scrolls Online" is more of a spin-off than the actual successor of the franchise, Bethesda still has the next game waiting in the wings.

However, there is also a scenario in which the next game in the "Elder Scrolls" franchise might take even longer to come out.

According to iDigital Times, Bethesda is known to work only on one game at a time, meaning that with "Fallout 4" commanding all of the company's attention, work on "The Elder Scrolls 6" may not have even started yet. If that turns out to be the case, then "The Elder Scrolls 6" might not be released until three to four years from now.

Bethesda is the only one that knows for sure about the fate of "The Elder Scrolls 6," and until the company talks, fans can only hope that news regarding the game is coming out sooner rather than later.
