'Destiny' 2 sequel reportedly in the works

It appears as though the foundation for a "Destiny" sequel is already being laid down.

A game element that was supposed to be included in the game's most recent expansion, "The Taken King," was reportedly cut out and will now be featured instead in the sequel for the franchise.

The element in question was said to be a new public space that was to be situated in the planet of Mars. The new space was also set to feature its own strikes and raids and basically be a new area for players to congregate in. However, the decision was ultimately made to cut the Mars public space from the expansion and it has now been handed over to Activision's High Moon Studios, PlayStation Lifestyle reported via a report now taken down on Kotaku.

The current plan seems to call for the Mars public space to eventually be included in the sequel to "Destiny."

High Moon Studios has already confirmed their partnership with Bungie, although for now, the company has only said that they are providing support for "Destiny" and have relented on stating whether or not they are currently at work on developing elements of the next game of the franchise.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the Mars public space was not the only significant change Bungie made to their original plans for "Destiny."

Original plans for the game reportedly had Bungie working to develop an expansion known as Comet.

Comet would then include new areas known as Europa, which would have been the Mars public space, and another area situated on Earth which would have been known as the European Dead Zone, according to IGN.

These plans were ultimately scrapped and Comet was tweaked until it eventually transformed into what was ultimately released as "The Taken King" expansion for the game.

Bungie has not offered any official comments regarding the supposed plans surrounding "Destiny."
