Dallas Mavericks trade rumors: team looking to add size via trades and free agency

The Dallas Mavericks may be looking to add some significant size to the roster via a trade and a free agent acquisition.

Starting with who the Mavericks may be looking to add via the trade route, one player they may be looking at is Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Joe Johnson.

Johnson may no longer be the same isolation force that he once was in his prime, but the veteran still has the skills necessary to make a discernible impact on the team.

Johnson is also one of the bigger guards in the National Basketball Association (NBA), and he could be an appealing trade target for the Dallas Mavericks not just for his scoring ability but also because he's another big body that coaches can throw at elite wing players.

The Mavericks may also consider Johnson as a potential upgrade simply because he requires no long-term commitment. As The Inquisitr noted, the 6-foot-7-inch Johnson is currently in the last year of his contract, meaning the Mavericks could simply let him walk into free agency should he prove to be a poor fit with the team.

Aside from Johnson, the Dallas Mavericks may also be able to add another big body to the roster through free agency.

According to Yahoo's Shams Charania, former Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders is thinking about coming back to the NBA but only after some of his off-court ventures become more secure.

Sanders utilized his 6-foot-11-inch frame to become one of the league's pre-eminent rim protectors during his initial run in the NBA, although he opted not to play this season after being bought out by the Bucks last year.

Should Sanders decide to make a comeback, there will likely be many teams looking into acquiring his services, and the Dallas Mavericks may very well be one of those teams.

Sanders and the Mavericks have already been linked in the past, according to Mavs Moneyball, so there appears to be interest at least on one end.

Adding Sanders may also give the Mavericks the rim-protecting center that could help further stabilize their defense.

If the Dallas Mavericks manage to add both Johnson and Sanders, the additional size may help the team play better inside the highly competitive Western Conference.
