'Cyberpunk 2077' release rumors: Game primed for late 2016 launch?

 "Cyberpunk 2077" website

Thanks to the success of "The Witcher 3," fans are now eager to get a look at the next game from CD Projekt Red, which would be "Cyberpunk 2077," and now that wait may not be that long after all.

According to Gamereactor Germany and as reported on by Gamespot, the new game from CD Projekt Red could be released as early as next year. More specifically, "Cyberpunk 2077" could be ready by late 2016.

The German website indicated that they received their intel from a source close to the company, although the tipster remains anonymous for now. It's worth noting that the late 2016 release windows appears to be more of a target as opposed to a deadline at this point, meaning CD Projekt Red could just as easily let the date pass by without worrying too much about it.

The latest news regarding the supposed release date represents a rare bit of information regarding "Cyberpunk 2077."

CD Projekt Red has remained very tight-lipped about the game to this point, and fans have had to make due with images and abstract descriptions to conjure up ideas about what "Cyberpunk 2077" will be like.

The anonymous tipster also revealed that the game might eventually end up being released on consoles as well.

As of now, "Cyberpunk 2077" is only tabbed for a personal computer (PC) release, but the source revealed that it will likely receive a console release as well. Sony or Microsoft could also end up fighting for exclusive rights to the game, according to the unnamed source.

According to iDigital Times, while it's entirely likely that CD Projekt Red could announce additional platforms for "Cyberpunk 2077," the news outlet expects that to happen only after the game has been officially launched on the PC.

For their part, CD Projekt Red has indicated that they do not want to comment on the rumors currently surrounding "Cyberpunk 2077."
