Christian athlete Lolo Jones admits staying celibate is harder than Olympics training

People might poke fun at Christians who vow to remain celibate before marriage. Olympian runner Lolo Jones has made the same vow and to her this should not be made fun of since it's no easy feat. But although this vow is difficult to keep, it yields gratifying pay-off in the end, she said.

"It's just something, a gift that I want to give to my husband. But please, understand, this journey has been hard," Jones said during an interview with HBO. "If there are virgins out there, I'm going to let them know, it's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life — harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college."

Jones said she has been tempted several times to give up her virginity, since there have been guys who would proposition, "You know, if you have sex, it will help you run faster."

But Jones would only jokingly reply, "If you marry me, then yeah."

Because of her commitment to remain a virgin, Jones has had difficulty finding the right guy in the dating field, since many out there refuse to wait for marriage before having sex.

As for her previous boyfriends, Jones said she has stopped talking to them after breaking up. "I can't be friends with a guy after we stop talking," Jones shared on her Twitter account (@lolojones). "Rather spend time praying 4 my future husband than entertaining ones God closed the door to."

She also hinted at her relationship struggles and fear of getting her heart broken when she tweeted: "Guard your heart. In the moment I'll be confused and hurt when relationships don't work out but as time passes I see God was simply protecting me from you."
