The rights for the widely successful story-driven puzzle-platformer adventure video game "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons" has been sold by game developer Starbreeze Studios to 505 Games.

The game developer announced the news Friday in its official website, saying that the international video game publishing arm of Digital Bros. S.p.A. managed to purchase the puzzle adventure game for $500,000.

"Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons" sold more than 800,000 units all over the world.

Starbreeze CEO Bo Adersson Klint explained the reason for selling the game to another company.

"The sale represents our final transition to the digital strategy. With Brothers we've created a strong and critically acclaimed IP, which we now feel can be best nurtured under a new owner. Going forward, we will continue development focused on expansive design, a concept proven with the PAYDAY-franchise. Brothers will continue to generate awe and admiration for the great storytelling standard Josef Fares set under 505 Games watchful eye," the Starbreeze CEO said.

505 Games president Ian Howe also shared why they decided to acquire the game from its developer.

He said, "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a remarkable game, one of the most affecting games of the last generation and one of which 505 Games has been very proud to be associated. This acquisition reflects 505 Games' stated strategy of owning and controlling its own IP, and, moreover, IP that can contribute something meaningful to the world of interactive entertainment."

The puzzle adventure game is not only a highly saleable game, it earned the nod from the critics' circle as well. During the 17th DICE awards, "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons" was given the Downloadable Game of the Year award.

Because of this acquisition, speculations are now claiming that the game will be given a brand new sequel under its new owner, which is also responsible for other popular games like "Cooking Mama" and "Drawn to Life."
