Some villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may have been underwhelming, but studio President Kevin Feige assures that Josh Brolin's Thanos in the "Avengers: Infinity War" will not be lackluster.
Speaking at this year's Comic-Con Experience in Brazil, Feige teased that the Mad Titan will be the villain fans have all been expecting. He will be the most dangerous big bad yet, and just how big of a threat he actually is will be proven within the first five minutes of the film.
"We've been teasing him for years and the trick is when you tease something for that long you have to deliver," he said during the panel. "So, within the first five minutes of Infinity War people will understand why Thanos is the biggest and baddest villain in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Indeed, Thanos has been teased for what it feels like forever. Debuting in the first "Avengers" film in 2012, the character has only appeared or referenced briefly in a couple of MCU films, terrorizing both Earth-bound superheroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Now that he is finally stepping out of the shadows, he naturally needs to come out strong.
As to how daunting the Mad Titan's entrance will be is something fans will have to watch out for, but Feige noted he will not be coming to Earth alone. Although he may not really need it, Thanos is reportedly bringing help in the movie.
"He's got some company," Feige continued. "He's got some old faces that you'll recognize. A certain brother of Thor might show up for a while with him and he has his own team called the Black Order which is a brand-new selection of villains. But really, Thanos doesn't need much help. He can pretty much take care of it himself."
As reported previously, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is confirmed to be siding with Brolin's character in the film. This has been teased in the trailer when he handed the Tesseract that houses one of the Infinity Stones to someone after stealing it during Asgard's destruction in "Thor: Ragnarok."
If previous rumors are accurate, he will be reviving some deceased superheroes as well like Quicksilver (Aaron-Taylor Johnson) and Crossbones (Frank Grillo) to aid him in obtaining all Infinity Stones. Whether or not this is the case, "Avengers: Infinity War" is expected to deliver nerve-wracking climax that may even see the end of some characters.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film premieres on May 4, 2018.
