2018 NBA Playoffs: Warriors Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant share how their Christian faith helps win games

The 2018 NBA Playoffs season has begun and while the stars in the basketball court compete for a slot in the finals, Christian players like Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, who play for the Golden State Warriors, are working hard to give God the glory.

The Warriors successfully kicked off their playoffs match against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday in Oakland, giving their team a chance to advance to the Western Conference semifinals.

Curry told CBN News that God has an important role in their team. He and the rest of the Warriors have bonded together not just over their love of basketball, but also their faith in God.

"We have a group chat – we call it the discipleship group where we share Bible verses every single day and kind of do a Bible study through text message," Curry shared. "Every game day we probably have 10, 11 guys show up for the 30-minute Bible study, prayer service -- daily encouragement that's the biggest thing."

Durant also revealed to the publication that reading the Bible helps him prepare for games as it guides him to play his best on the court.

He's not alone in his commitment to God in his sport. The Pelicans' shooting guard Jrue Holiday said that he does what he can to play his best but ultimately, it's all in God's hands.

"I try to do what He wants me to do and come out here and perform the best I can for my teammates. That's my responsibility," Holiday told the Christian Sports Journal in 2017. "I try to take it and leave it in God's hands," he added.

The Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans will still face-off in Game 2 in Oakland on Tuesday and during Game 3 and 4 on Friday and Saturday in New Orleans. Succeeding schedules for Games 5 to 7 will follow pending the results of the upcoming games.
