The MacBook Air's release may really happen in April as Intel's Broadwell processor will finally come out at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show this January. It's only a week away before the whole world sees the latest 14nm processor from Intel dubbed as the Broadwell chip.
Apple and Intel have a special relationship and the former is said to be the first to have the new Intel chipsets. Reports from the recent past claimed Apple pushed back the release of the MacBook Air because of the delayed release of Intel chips.
With the release of the latest chipset, Taiwanese media source DigiTimes also spilled that the 12-inch MacBook Air will head into production early next year and will most likely be announced in the second quarter of 2015. Thus, the laptop may hit the market in April. This is backed up by the fact that the 2014 MacBook Air updated with Intel Haswell processors were slipped into the market in April this year.
As for the rumored specs and features of the device, the MacBook Air is purported to sport a thinner profile brought about by the inclusion of the aforementioned processors. Packing the chipset allows the device to be fanless, thus Apple is able to shed off some of the weight and thickness of the device.
In addition, the MacBook Air will also include a 12-inch Retina screen panel as well as USB Type-C port and better battery capacity. However, Apple has not officially revealed the specs and features of the MacBook Air.
The DigiTimes report added that the laptop will be manufactured by Quanta Computer in limited quantities as the 12-inch MacBook Air will target the high-end market. Targeting the upper segment of the market suggests that the device will sport top of the line specs and features. This way, Apple will surely ensure its place on the top of the market.
Meanwhile, other reports speculate that the MacBook Air will be announced alongside other Apple devices like the updated iPad Pro and iPhone 6S.
