Xiaomi Redmi 1S vs Moto E specs: Battle of affordable smartphones

Two of the most popular low-cost smartphone devices in the market today are the Moto E by Motorola and the Redmi 1S by Xiaomi. Both were built with mid-range specs and are being sold for very affordable prices, Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Motorola Moto E are highly preferred by the budget-conscious who want to own a decent smartphone. 

But which mid-range mobile device is worth paying for?  Here is the comparison between the Xiaomi Redmi 1S and the Motorola Moto E:

Body and Display

The Xiaomi Redmi 1S comes with a 4.7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen featuring a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution with 312 ppi pixel density, and has a 5.39 x 2.72 x 0.39-inch body that weighs 5.57 ounces. 

The Moto E, on the other hand, comes with a slightly smaller 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen that has a 540 x 960 pixel resolution with 256 ppi pixel density. It measures 4.91 x 2.55 x 0.48 inches all over and weighs 5.01 ounces.

Internal Features and Storage 

Running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, the Chinese-manufactured Xiaomi Redmi 1S is powered with a Qualcomm MSM8228 Snapdragon chipset with quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU and Adreno 305 GPU. It has an 8 GB built-in memory with 1 GB RAM, but it can be expanded up to 32 GB through its microSD slot. 

Meanwhile, Moto E is currently running using the Android 4.4.2 KitKat but can be updated to the 4.4.4 version. It will eventually be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop once Motorola rolls it out. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset with dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU and Adreno 302 GPU. Its internal memory is lower compared to Redmi 1S's at 4 GB with 1 GB RAM, but it can also be expanded up to 32 GB through its own microSD slot. 

Camera features 

Redmi 1S by Xiaomi has an 8-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and autofocus capacities, and it has a 1.6-megapixel secondary camera for selfie shots. 

The Moto E, on the other hand, features a 5-megapixel camera, but it does not have any secondary camera in front.
