Xiaomi is expected to drop a new mobile device in the first quarter of 2018. Recently, a spokesperson of the Chinese handset maker confirmed that the first Xiaomi handset to launch this year, the Mi MIX 2S, will be unveiled next month. Consistent with the previous reports, the upcoming Mi MIX 2S will be the first from the company to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will serve as the successor of 2017's Mi MIX 2, to which some believed that the next-gen handset would be called the Mi MIX 3. Based on the naming alone, the upcoming smartphone could retain most of the specs and design of the Mi MIX 2, except for the fact that the device will boast Qualcomm's latest high-end mobile processor. Xiaomi's representative and product management director Donovan Sung confirmed the Mi MIX 2S's chip on Twitter, matching the earlier rumors about the handset.

To recall, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun already announced that one of the future devices of the company will be among the first few to run the Snapdragon 845 chip during Qualcomm's recent launch event. Although, it was rumored back then that the Xiaomi handset in question would arrive at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. With the tech expo ongoing, there are no hints from the Chinese manufacturer that a new hardware would be announced in the coming days.

For now, it was revealed that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will be unveiled at a solo event scheduled on March 27. Interestingly, Sung also included the number "273741" in his tweet, which turns out to be the rumored AnTuTu benchmark score of the smartphone. The Mi MIX 2S is expected to hit the shelves in India and China following its launch, and the device could eventually find its way to Western European Cities.

The first premium smartphone packed with the Snapdragon 845 chipset is the Samsung Galaxy S9. If the rumors are anything to go by, the other upcoming handset to boast the same processor is the Xiaomi Mi 7.
