Xbox One Slim release date news: will fans get a big reveal at E3 next month?

There have been a lot of talks in the recent months regarding the launch of next-generation consoles. PS4 is allegedly working on the so-called PS4 Neo while Nintendo NX is set for a March 2017 release. Microsoft is not one to be left behind, with the Xbox One Slim allegedly in the works.

This console is rumored to make an appearance next month, specifically during the Electronic Entertainment Expo next month. Not much is known about the machine beyond what its name suggests.

Xbox One Slim is simply a scaled down version of the standard Xbox One. Microsoft blogger Brad Sams described the console as a "lightweight Xbox One."

Although it has the Xbox One name on it, the so-called Xbox One Slim is rumored to focus on Windows store games only. The device, expected to be much cheaper, is allegedly taking on the Apple TV and not other consoles.

Sams indicated that there's a possibility of the Xbox One Slim possibly getting scrapped. If it does, it will make sense, especially with Microsoft Xbox head Phil Spencer's stern stand on releasing consoles with half the upgrades.

Not too long ago, there were rumors that Microsoft is building not an Xbox One Slim but an Xbox one and a half, an upgrade to its current console. He dispelled the rumors saying he's "not a big fan."

"If we are going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers... If we're going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be really substantial change for people — an upgrade," he told Game Informer.

Aside from the Xbox One Slim, rumor mills have also been talking about Xbox Two, which, interestingly, started with Spencer's statement.

It is unclear what Microsoft has planned in its console department, but the company has already expressed its desire to further develop it. Whether or not the Xbox One Slim, it won't be long before fans learn about it.
